One of the easiest ways for residents to understand how their local government is performing is through a public performance dashboard.

 

A performance dashboard is simply a place where an organization regularly reports on the goals it has set, the progress it has made, and the results it has achieved. Rather than waiting until the end of the year, residents can see how projects, services, and priorities are progressing throughout the year.

 

Many cities use public dashboards to answer questions like:

• Are major projects on schedule?

• Are budgets being met?

• How quickly are permits being processed?

• Are emergency response goals being achieved?

• Is infrastructure being replaced as planned?

• Are strategic priorities moving forward?

 

A dashboard also gives the City Commission a consistent way to evaluate organizational performance and helps residents understand how public resources are being used.

 

During our review, we were unable to locate a current public-facing performance dashboard for the City of Livingston.
